Edinson Cavani scores four goals as Paris Saint-Germain put six past Caen

Paris Saint-Germain climb to the top of Ligue 1 after thrashing Caen 6-0 in Friday night's clash at the Stade Michel D'Ornano, with Edinson Cavani scoring four goals.

Paris Saint-Germain have climbed to the top of Ligue 1 after thrashing Caen 6-0 in Friday night's clash at the Stade Michel D'Ornano.

The Parisian giants, who have dominated the French league for a number of years, have endured a stuttering start this season courtesy of a 3-1 defeat at Monaco and a 1-1 home draw against Saint-Etienne.

However, they were merciless against their Norman opponents, as Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani struck four goals in the first half - one from the penalty spot - to all but end the game as a contest.

PSG continued to push forward after the restart and were rewarded with a fifth goal, with Lucas Moura unleashing a vicious strike into the top corner after good link-up play with Jean-Kevin Augustin.

The provider then turned scorer in the 78th minute, collecting Adrien Rabiot's pass and rifling past the reach of Caen goalkeeper Remy Vercoutre to make it six goals against their beleaguered opponents.
