Paris Saint-Germain not interested in Arsene Wenger for backroom role

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi suggests that Arsene Wenger will not be offered a job as no positions currently need filling at the Parc des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has ruled out appointing former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as the club's sporting director.

The 68-year-old is weighing up his options after stepping down from his role at the Emirates Stadium last week following more than two decades in charge.

Wenger has a strong bond with PSG's hierarchy and was touted as a possible contender to join the French champions in some capacity, where he would work alongside newly-appointed boss Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to French outlet L'Equipe, however, Al-Khelaifi suggested that an approach will not be made as no positions need filling.

"He is a close friend, I have a lot of admiration and respect for him and everything he has done in football," he said.

"He's a big man. This is one of the first people I spoke to before buying the club, and he told me one thing that I never forgot: 'You buy a diamond and it will be cut and shined'.

"I do not know what he will do, but he will have a lot offers. Today, the sports director of PSG is Antero Henrique and he will stay."

Wenger intends to make a decision on his next career move by the middle of June.
