FA chairman Greg Dyke: 'No sympathy for Sepp Blatter'

FA chairman Greg Dyke says that he has little sympathy for FIFA president Sepp Blatter after the 79-year-old was banned from football activity for eight years.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has said that he has little sympathy for Sepp Blatter after the outgoing FIFA president was banned from all football activity for eight years.

Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini were both handed lengthy bans yesterday over a £1.3m payment made to Platini in 2011 that was signed off by Blatter.

Dyke had originally been a supporter of Platini to succeed Blatter in charge of FIFA, but then admitted yesterday that he was unsure who to back in next year's election.

As for Blatter, Dyke said that he had no sympathy for the 79-year-old.

"For Blatter? Personally? No," Dyke told BBC Radio 5 live. "It's interesting what he said.

"He just doesn't separate himself from FIFA. He thinks he is the same thing, and that's rather sad. I don't think he will recover from this.

"He saw the attack on FIFA as an attack on him."

Both Blatter and Platini are expected to challenge the ruling of FIFA's ethics committee.
