Real Sociedad and Valencia want to sign Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood on a permanent basis next summer, according to a report.

Getafe will reportedly struggle to acquire Mason Greenwood on a permanent basis next summer due to the number of clubs expressing an interest in signing him from Manchester United.

Having been informed by the 20-time English champions that his career with them was over, the forward joined Getafe on loan over the summer, and he has been in strong form for the La Liga side, scoring four goals and registering three assists in 11 appearances in all competitions.

The 22-year-old is set to return to Old Trafford next June, and he has another 18 months left to run on his contract with the Red Devils.

Respected journalist Jamie Jackson recently said that there is a chance that Greenwood could be introduced back into the picture at Man United, but it does seem highly unlikely.

A recent report claims that a number of Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on the forward's situation, but it is believed that he will move permanently to a Spanish team next year.

According to The Sun, Real Sociedad and Valencia are both determined to sign him, with the pair ahead of Getafe in the pecking order when it comes to a permanent move.

The report claims that Greenwood 'has really settled' in Spain, and he is open to completing a long-term switch to a Spanish side during next summer's transfer window.

Real Sociedad are playing Champions League football this season and will again be targeting a spot in that competition next term, so the club could potentially offer him the chance to play top-level European football again after previously featuring on 10 times in the competition for Man United.

The Red Devils decided in August that Greenwood would not represent the club again after concluding an investigation into the events that led to his arrest in the early stages of 2022.

Following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the CPS said that all charges had been dropped earlier this year.

Man United are believed to have made the decision to bring him back into the first team before changing their minds due to the public backlash, and it is understood that head coach Erik ten Hag had been expecting to have the forward in his squad this season.

Greenwood has scored twice and registered three assists in 10 La Liga appearances this season, while he has netted twice in one outing in the Copa del Rey.

The forward was on the scoresheet in Getafe's 2-1 win over Almeria in the league last time out, and he is set to be back in action against Las Palmas on Friday evening.
