Newcastle United have reportedly made progress in their efforts to secure the signing of Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

While first-choice stropper Nick Pope has recently returned from a long-term shoulder injury, the Magpies are seemingly determined to acquire another player for between the sticks.

In recent days, it has emerged that Eddie Howe is eager to win the hotly-contested race for England Under-21 international James Trafford, who lost his place in the Clarets squad in March.

Although Newcastle are yet to agree a fee with Burnley, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says that personal terms have been agreed with the player.

Manchester United have reportedly made an approach for an alternative attacking option to Joshua Zirkzee.

The Red Devils are currently in the process of determining whether they will retain the services of head coach Erik ten Hag, whose position is currently being reviewed.

Nevertheless, the club's footballing operations team are aware that they can ill-afford to start their transfer work later than their rivals as they bid to strengthen in several areas before 2024-25.

United are also in a position where they will have to contemplate some shrewd moves in the market to remain on the right side of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations.

After another agonising Premier League campaign of close yet no cigar - watching Manchester City lift the title while they stare at their silver medals - Arsenal will dip their toe into the market once more this summer in an attempt to decrease the gap even further.

No marquee signings akin to £105m Declan Rice are expected, but reinforcements are apparently being targeted in the attacking slots - both up front and out wide - a new defensive midfielder, a new left-back and possibly a new goalkeeper too.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at every player to have been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer and rates their chances of joining Mikel Arteta's team.

Xavi 'eyeing Premier League job' after Barcelona sack

Former Barcelona boss Xavi reportedly has his sights set on a move to the Premier League.

Since November 2021, the former midfielder has been tasked with bringing the Catalan giants through a sustained period of financial turbulence and keep them as La Liga challengers.

Xavi has achieved that goal to a certain extent, lifting last year's league title before having to settle for the runners-up spot this time around.

However, despite having initially performed a U-turn to extend his stay at Camp Nou, comments over the club's expected progress led to president Joan Laporta ending his time in the dugout.

Everton 'pushing to sign' £30m-rated Chelsea player

Everton are reportedly ready to be proactive in the race to sign a Chelsea player during the summer transfer window.

The Toffees' off-the-field activity generated more attention than their on-the-pitch performances over the most recent campaign, Sean Dyche's side defying two separate points deductions to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Furthermore, the race for ownership has taken multiple twists and turns, with a number of parties now bidding to takeover after 777 Partners failed to get a deal over the line.

As a result, incomings at this stage of the summer felt highly unlikely, particularly when Everton will need to sell players in order to remain on the right side of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability regulations.

Man United attacker 'rules out Fenerbahce move' due to Mourinho stance

Fenerbahce have reportedly set their sights on signing Mason Greenwood, but the Manchester United striker has concerns about the prospect of playing under Jose Mourinho.

The 22-year-old recently completed a loan spell at Getafe in La Liga, and now the Red Devils must make a new decision regarding his future at Old Trafford.

Since his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault, Greenwood has not featured for United.

However, all charges against him were dropped last February and United had initially contemplated reintegrating him into Erik ten Hag's squad, but opted against it due to fears of backlash over his return.
