Liverpool were reportedly quoted £35m more than their rivals for Barcelona attacker Philippe Coutinho this summer.

Barcelona allegedly quoted Liverpool a premium price of £100m for the services of Philippe Coutinho this summer.

The Brazilian has been linked with an exit from Camp Nou in recent months following his faltering form for the Spanish champions, which has led to fans calling him for to be sold.

Barca have reportedly been willing to listen to offers in the region of £65m for the 27-year-old, but according to The Sun, when Liverpool made an enquiry for their former player they were quoted a 50% premium of £100m.

The Reds were unhappy over Barca's pursuit of the player ahead of his departure for Spain in January 2018, and as a result, the newspaper claims that Ernesto Valverde's side were determined to make them "pay through the nose" in order to re-sign the attacker.

With proposed moves to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur having failed to materialise before tonight's 5pm transfer deadline, Coutinho is thought to still be of interest to Juventus and Bayern Munich before their respective transfer windows shut.

Coutinho has four years remaining on his current deal at Barcelona.
