Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to press ahead with a move for Lyon's Houssem Aouar despite concerns at the club, according to a report.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar this summer.

The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the English capital in recent months, with the Gunners seemingly reigniting their interest in the France international.

According to The Athletic, Arteta is keen to bring the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium before this summer's transfer window closes for business.

However, the report claims that senior figures at the Premier League side have doubts over Aouar and are unsure whether his personality would fit in at the club.

The midfielder could potentially be available for as little as €25m (£21.2m) and is regarded as a cheaper alternative to Leicester City attacker James Maddison.

Aouar, who has less than two years left to run on his current deal, has scored 32 times and registered 31 assists in 171 appearances for Lyon in all competitions.
