Wenger faces axe over declining crowds?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could reportedly be dismissed at the end of the season due to concerns about the dwindling attendances at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal will reportedly consider sacking manager Arsene Wenger due to the declining attendances at their home games.

Crowds at the Emirates Stadium have dwindled for the past four league matches, a trend which is expected to continue until the end of the season, with the Gunners' hopes of reaching the top four all but over.

According to the Daily Mail, the growing number of empty seats is causing concern among the club's hierarchy and some board members believe that this alone represents grounds for the Frenchman's dismissal.

Many of the no-shows are said to be season ticket holders, meaning that the club's revenue is not impacted, but senior club figures have reportedly expressed concerns about the damage the boycott is doing to Arsenal's global brand and commercial value.

Wenger has been under mounting pressure all season due to the club's poor league form and dismal defence of the FA Cup, but the Gunners are still on the hunt for silverware and a place in the Champions League via the Europa League, in which they will play Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.
