Everton 'want Arsene Wenger as next manager'

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri reportedly wants to appoint under-fire Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as the club's next manager, amid speculation over Sam Allardyce's future.

Everton have reportedly earmarked long-serving Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as a candidate to replace Sam Allardyce as manager.

Wenger's future has once again come under intense scrutiny following his side's 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, a result which condemned the Gunners to four straight defeats for the first time since 2002.

The Europa League is now Arsenal's only hope of salvaging something from the season with 13 points separating them from the top four, but they come up against an in-form AC Milan side in the last 16.

Wenger still has more than a year remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and insists that he is capable of turning the situation around, despite calls for him to step down from the post he has occupied for 22 years reaching unprecedented levels.

The future of Everton's own manager is also a topic of debate, with the club's fans turning on Allardyce during their 2-1 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.

The Daily Star reports that Toffees chairman Farhad Moshiri has lined up a sensational move for Wenger should he part company with Allardyce, identifying the Frenchman as the ideal candidate to lead the club back towards challenging for European football.

Moshiri was formerly a part-owner of Arsenal alongside Alisher Usmanov before taking over at Everton.
