A banished star from The Traitors says that it was their time to go.

The Traitors villain Paul Gorton has admitted that he left the show at "the right time".

The 36-year-old became one of the biggest characters on this year's series, playing as a Traitor and ruthlessly turning on his fellow Traitors to get them banished at the opportune moment.

The tables were dramatically turned on Paul in Thursday night's episode, however, as his fellow Traitor Harry gave him a taste of his own medicine and orchestrated his removal from the game.

Speaking to The Sun about his exit, Paul said: "I feel like I got to a point where I was done.

"I knew I was being called out and I knew that it was the right time for me to go. I felt like it was a great full stop and it's the end of my show.

"I know it was because of the fumble that we made with the dungeon – I knew I was on borrowed time at that point. Every day after that was a bonus to me.

"Would I have done anything differently? I wouldn't have put myself in the dungeon, put it that way!"

The Traitors continues Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
